Is the Hay you buy safe for your horse’s

I have had the unfortunate experience to evaluate an acute liver toxicity in a horse this fall. This horse had to be euthanatized due to liver damage that was not reversible. After an extensive investigation it was determined that the toxicity came from a toxic weed in the hay. Toxic weeds can be very difficult to see in baled hay. This toxic week was found in the field that the hay came from. Therefore it is important to know where your hay comes from and buy certified weed free hay.
